Barry Sadler: Ballad of the Green Berets Meaning
Song Released: 1966
Ballad of the Green Berets Lyrics
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men we'll test today
But only three win...
-
This song is pretty straight forward. Its about duty, dedication, knowing why we train, knowing where we may have to go, and knowing one of the possible outcomes, and still having dedication to your country, your family, the men you serve with and the lifestyle you have chosen.
The jump wings as any job function badge is always earned never given. They are taught to be the best. And only few have pride in saying "I'm a green beret."
