I interpreted it as kind of like a reverse/ unholy baptism. People dip their heads into the bowl wetting their heads and seal their fates with a kiss on the black lips (likely the devil). Then people go and put a finger print of red (blood symbolism) making a promise, then acting like either possessed (most like)/ or high (least likely).
