    As far as I know it was a reference to Brian Epstein who always wanted to be one of the free thinking flower power beautiful people despite his suit and tie image. Lennon always saw him as a money grabber who appeared to make more money out of The Beatles than The Beatles themselves

    I think this song is about the explosion of false guru's. Preaching non material mumbo jumbo whilst building a stash ( The crooks). ' You keep all your money in a big brown bag behind the zoo' . I think the zoo is the followers and devotees. I hope this makes sense.
