I Want To Hold Your Hand Lyrics

Oh yeah, I’ll tell you something,
I think you’ll understand.
When I’ll say that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

Oh please, say to me
You’ll let me be your man
And please, say to...

The book "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist" Dev sits down next to Nick and holds his hand .. and he goes into this speal about how The Beatles nailed it on their FIRST single by the way .. someone earlier said it was one of their earlier songs ..it was their first song dumb ass .. anyways ..."That's what everyone wants. Not 24-7 hot wet sex. Not a marriage that lasts a hundred years. Not a Porsche or a Blow Job or a million dollar crib. No. They wanna hold your hand. They have such a feeling that they can't hide." .. its simply saying that they want someone to love enough for them to just occasionally know that you just want your hand held .. he might of just been on a train and saw a woman with really nice hands and he wanted to hold her hand .. but even that one moment boils down to what the whole song can be interpreted into .. just having someone who you want to share a small moment with by holding their hand that moment may turn into something big or it may of simply of just ended when you let go of their hand but thats the beauty of holding someone's hand its no to intimate that you feel you need to really get to know the person before you do but intimate enough that you share a real moment with a complete stranger.

It's a little known fact that when Paul McCartney wrote this song he had a huge "crush" on a girl named Bun. This song is about her and he originally wanted to name the song "I want to hold your paw."

I think this song is about someone who lost somebody and wants to live again all the moments he can't have anymore.

The definitive step #1, (at least by the time the two are speaking to one another): 1/For the Beatles w/the record buying public, (in the US, at least, for in the UK they'd already released 20+ tracks: 4 singles, an LP, + other singles & an LP that were de-facto Beatles records, credited to "Tony Sheridan w/the Beatles", before this was recorded). 2/ For the man & woman in the story: He/(They): I want to get to know you.. She/(Us): What does THAT mean?...what do you want to DO? He: Well, -everything-, I suppose, if it works out between us. She: Yeah, right, but what to want to do RIGHT NOW? He: Well, right this minute, I just want to hold your hand,(I just want you to listen to my song)...A great, safe way to have parents allow their kids to buy a Beatles record, even if Mom & Dad hated the music.

Contrary to "FEBRUARY 17TH": "...Hand" was, A/The Beatles' FIFTH commercial release: (1: Love Me Do / PS I love You, 2: Please Please Me / Ask Me Why, 3:From Me To You / Thank You Girl, 4: She Loves you / I'll Get You, 5: I Want To Hold Your Hand / This Boy...), B/The Beatles had already recorded & released an entire album on ***March 22nd,'63***: "Please Please Me",(I Saw Her Standing There, Misery, Anna, Chains, Boys, Ask Me Why, Please Please Me/Love Me Do, P.S. I Love You, Baby It's You, Do You Want To Know A Secret, A Taste Of Honey, There's a Place, Twist And Shout), While "...Hand" wasn't recorded until ***October 17th***.

Everyone has the common misconception that this song is about love, or wanting simple hand holding. Actually, it's metaphoric, just like many other Beatles song titles and lyrics. What he really means is he wants to get high. In essence, "holding [your] hand" refers to "holding hands" with whichever drug he means. Another key drug reference by the Beatles is Lucy in the Sky, which is a metaphor for d-lysergic acid (LSD). Hence, "Lucy (L) in the Sky (S) with Diamonds (D). Many Beatles songs contain drug references, and "I want to hold your hand" is another one of them.
