Beatles: If I Fell Meaning
Song Released: 1964
If I Fell Lyrics
Would you promise to be true
And help me understand?
Because I've been in love before
And I found that love was more
Than just holding hands
If I give my heart to you
I must be sure from the very start
That you...

#1 top rated interpretation:“If I Fell,” a song by The Beatles, is about how the speaker is entering a new relationship, and wants to be sure that the girl he’s with now, won’t hurt him like the last girl he was with. The quote, “I must be sure… That you would love me more than her,” from Stanza 2, proves my previous statement that the speaker wishes not to be hurt by his new-found love. In Stanza 1 lines one and two, it says “If I fell in love with you, would you promise to be true,” which shows the speaker is more careful about who he is choosing to let into his life; the speaker isn’t sure about trusting anyone yet, starting his statement with a big “If.” The reason for this is because he has learned that love is “more than just holding hands.”
Furthermore, I believe this song is about how falling in love with one person can influence how you respond to others in a situation like it - Such as in Stanza 3, when it says “Don’t hurt my pride like her, cause I couldn’t stand the pain. And I would be sad if our new love was in vain.” This is describing how the speaker wouldn’t be able to stand going through the same things as his last relationship; He wouldn’t be able to withstand the pain and heartbreak knowing that he just loved someone else, for nothing.
This song describes pain and heartbreak from a previous relationship, but also hope for something better, something new. “So I hope you see that I would love to love you. And that she will cry when she see’s we are two,” is showing how the speaker isn’t afraid to fall in love with this new girl that is, or might soon be, in his life. Also stating how he knows that the girl from his past relationship might still have feelings for him, but he wouldn’t be ashamed of having her feel hurt that he has found someone new. And so the speaker knows that he is willing to commit to a girl who is willing to commit to him, ending the song with, “If I fell in love with you.” -

#2 top rated interpretation:In fact, the second line is grammaticaly incorrect:
"I must be sure from the very start
That you would love me more than her."
So, John either commited a fault (omfg, this is basic english!), or this song was sung to a lesbian woman (a bit unlikely) or - to a male.
Then, my interpretation is that John Lennon needed to decide to start new relationship or not. He didn´t know if he can trust him. He accepted it on one condition - the other man must promise, that John will be the only one ih his life, he must be sure that there is a perspective to continue a relationship in future. He worried about the girl because it would be painfully for her.
I cannot help myself, but I think, this lyrics are for Stuart (many people thought that it is for Brian, but he hadn´t girlfriend which "will cry"). -
In concert the Beatles used to call this song ‘If I fell over’. Consider that he must be completely sure right from the start that this love can’t hurt him, and that love is more than holding hands (more than with a person). Then there’s the pun (mentioned twice) it would be sad if our new love was in vain (in vein). It’s about guaranteed love - and you can only have that with a drug. Hence they called it ‘If I fell over’.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Guys it's about paul mccartney.....
-
I think he was singing to another man while he was still involved with a woman. He was asking this man to tell him he wont break his heart since he would make the woman cry when she found out they were two. He is obviously very unsure to take what he currently has with this woman and give it away for a risk on a man.

This song is unforunately, at its heart, about a guy whose primary interest in a new love is to hurt the girl who hurt him. "So I hope you see that I would love to love you, and that she will cry when she learns we are two." He reiterates it twice.

It is a song about love and John is singing to a girl about how his past girlfriend hurt his pride etc, and he is wanting to know that she will love him and treat him well.
-
It seems quite obvious that he is singing this to another woman. if i give my heart to you, i must be sure from the very start that you love me more then her. hes saying to a new lover that he needs to know she will love him, more than his past girlfriend who broke his heart. It could be john or paul saying this to someone specifically, but i think its just a generalization for people coming out of relationships to relate to.
-
I think it means that he wants a good relationship with a possible girlfriend but he doesn't know how to be in a great relationship since his last one didn't work out but his ex still has feelings for him.
-
I think this song is about loving someone and then hoping they treat you right and its about trusting that person with your love. This is one of my favorite beatles songs:D

I believe that this song has to do with the battle of being in love with someone...adn then meeting someone with whom you realise the connection is strong with. You honestly feel like they would treat you better..and the love could be better...but because you are already in love with another...you have to concentrate on what is going on in your life presently...instead of wishing and wondering what could have been. This song could go hand in hand with a few of George Harrisons songs... If I needed someone and I want to tell you.
