Beatles: Let It Be Meaning
Song Released: 1969
Covered By: Ricky Duran (2019)
Let It Be Lyrics
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let...
-
i gotta have me my boats and hoes.
also i think the song has relation to the vietnam war and getting wisdom from the virgin mary means that you are asking for help and asking god for help makes you calm and at peace. there is not much you can do about the war so "let it be". -
Why don't you guys stop arguing and let it be!
-
Paul and the other guys were fighting alot and their studio records were getting technical. Paul wanted the fighting to stop and go back to being a live band and not get into the studio and do all the music and overdubbing.
-
Triple pun :
Mother Mary -> Mother of God
His actual mother
Marijuana -
The meaning is hold on. That's what I, and most people I know, have drawn from it. When the times are dark, remember that it will get better. Some people I know believe it's a religious discussion between an atheist and a Christian.
-
Let it be means = Amen!
-
I woke up this morning before dawn and prayed to God to ease my pain....so much anxiety over so much....the next thing I knew, the song "Let it be" came into my mind ,I layed there thinking about the words, "and in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me ,speaking words of wisdom, let it be." I immediately felt better. To me it was God saying not to worry, it will all work out.
-
"Let it be" may refer to the attitude or state of mind of marijuana users while stoned. Both Lennon and McCartney were known to use pot and I think that when in 'times of trouble', 'the hour of darkness' or 'broken hearted' they would get stoned to get some relief or to cope with the stress of the situation. Some people 'need a drink' to calm down when on the edge, others need a smoke of 'mama mary'!
-
It means exactly what it says. Let it be... let things happen, and don't worry, it all ends up ok.
-
paul wrote the song as an answer to johns come together song. johns asking the group to come together and not break up and pauls answering to let it be. and when the broken hearted people, are fans upset about the breakup.

I think this song refers to Paul's mother and Mother Mary. Think about it, even for people who aren't Catholic, Jesus' mother represents a type of an architype for Motherhood, peace and a deep connection sanctity.
Is is not quite possible that Paul was referring to his Mother and Mary at the same time? Writer's often us a word or name to convey more than one meaning.
The phrase itself, "Mother Mary" conveys an image of holiness, wisdom peace and it's a well known phrase.
In essence, I don't see why Paul isn't referring to both.
This song is helping me through a difficult time right now.
It is very hurtful to know that good people think ill of me.
No matter what amount of kindness or charity I do, these people will always think ill of me.
Even if I become a bone marrow donor and end up saving a child from leukemia, these people will always think ill of me.
So I have to give it up to God and "Let it Be." Because only my God knows my heart.
Both Paul's Mom and Mary would be telling me to "Let it Be" too. -
lyric writing is an artform and like all art is open to interpritation. i am a songwriter and when i get inspiration for a song i will write it and afterwards i will look at the lyrics and interpret them. when someone else reads them they see something else. in some of pauls songs there are multiple interpritations i have heard of. i think interpreting lyrics is important but sometimes its important to just relax but that is when i begin to interpret it. in interpretation there is no right and wrong answers but you will find alot of people will disagree with you so at least for now LET IT BE!!!
-
I think we should stop arguing about the true meaning to the song, because they're all correct. This song means however the listener feels it means, so we should just LET IT BE.
-
the first words of the song "when i find my self in times of trouble mother mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom; let it be" this means that when he is in difficult uneasy times of stress, unhappiness or just genuine grief "mother mary" (mother mary jane) comes to him and he consumes marijuana which reduces his stress levels and makes him forget about his difficult time and "let it be".
-
I have found a special meaning to me by letting "mother Mary" mean Mary, the mother of God. For anyone to speak these words, "let is be", Mary's is the most profound. Her acceptance of the crucifixion of her son, with no way of understanding the divine purpose, is a lesson of patience and faith. If she can speak such words with such a burden, who cannot?
I hope that when I'm departed, I will see.
