Beatles: Let It Be Meaning
Song Released: 1969

Let It Be Lyrics
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let...
-
I think Paul is stressing the fact to, you know, let it be.
-
My family has been in turmoil lately. My brother is a recovering addict who has found Christianity. My sister continues to attack him saying she doesn't believe in his recovery. She attacks me for my support of him. It is all pretty stressful. Sleep has not been my friend. But as I lay in bed trying to get back to sleep the lyrics of this song came into my head. I went to the computer to search it's meaning because I was pretty sure it was a Christian message to me. There seem to be many interpretations as to its meaning but I think it means just what it says. Thank you to Paul, his mother and his spiritual awe-inspiring dream for sharing this all with us.

Let It Be is a special song. This song has been used to teach intellectually challenging children, people with little time in this world. I am sure the inspiration to write this song was due to the need of Paul at his lowest ebb. My opinion may not matter to most but I wouls add, this song very beautifully written gives hope to the hopeless.
With this note, I would say, Mother Mary gives hope to all hopelessness.
-
Regarding the note that somebody doesn't want us to interepret this or that song, I would like to relate what Beat-Era poet Jim Carroll taught me some 23 years or so ago. He said, both in person and through his "Praying Mantis" spoken word CD, that the listener or viewer -- the patron -- is best equipped to bring out an interpretation, especially of a dark, mysterious, or wildlyllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. aAAAAA
-
"Amen" interpreted means "Let it Be." So every time Paul McCartney sing "Let it Be" he is saying "Amen."
-
Music, like all art, has many different ways of being interpreted. The main gist of the song is to let things go, to not be so stressed out, to let things be. But, in the lines "and when the broken hearted people living in the world agree...there is still a chance that they will see. There will be an answer, let it be," it also says to let a new world come, a world of peace.
-
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.
-
Luke 1:38 And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.
-
Paul wrote this song when the band was on the verge of braking up. But in the middle of the night his dead MOTHER MARY CAME TO HIM and gave him WORDS OF WISDOM. To LET IT BE means to let it go, it also refers to the VIRGIN MARY'S response to Gabriele before she had Jesus, which means your giving your power to a higher power in this case the band.
"When I find myself in times of trouble" refers to the fact that the band was about to break up.
"And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me" means it was at night.
"And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree" the world would be broken hearted if they broke up, and possibly meaning the band would be sad, or that they need to agree.
"For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see, there will be an answer" means even if they do split, they still have time to patch things up or FIND AN ANSWER
"And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me" i think it means even when times are bad I can find the light(good side things or "silver lining")
"I wake up to the sound of music" means that after this dream he went to fix things with them, and succeeded and continue to make music.
You may think that this is wrong or stupid and if you do fine. It's best to take your own interpretation with songs like these, that's why we have them. -
Waterdrake why are you so upset about people interpreting Let it Be.. i think this is what the website is about - people expressing thier interpretations of lyrics... mmm... anyway.. I was wondering what people thought "broken hearted" refers too? Do you think it is for romantically broken hearted people or people who are broken hearted as in lost, down, hopeless..?
-
As with many songs this one too came to Paul in a dream about his mother, Paul always looked to his mother for guidance, and I believe the line... when broken hearted people living in this world agree there will be an answer to let it be. He was speaking for everyone.
-
I don't care if this is badly rated, but, I have OCD. And this song is extremley meaningful to me. LET IT BE IS THE MESSAGE FOR ME! When I have an OCD attack, instead of doing reassurance rituals, I just think- LET IT BE!
-
Instead of arguing, why do you just take it for what its worth? Use it in your own interpretation
