Ben Rector: When a Heart Breaks Meaning
When a Heart Breaks Lyrics
And I heard the news
I know the pain of a heartbreak
I don't have answers
And neither do you
I know the pain of a heartbreak
This isn't easy
This isn't clear
And you don't need Jesus
Til you're here
Then...

Recently diagnosed with CHF and lead a very active lifestyle. This 2nd vers resonates with that diagnosis and the realities of my status just prior to diagnosis, and the fact that we aren't promised another day. The needing Jesus line is spot on as well as I can say alot of praying and inner soul searching has occurred.

I found this song again after many years since first hearing it on the radio right after finding out I had lost my first pregnancy. I was a little over 11 weeks but there was no heartbeat and it measured a week behind.
I related to this song in many ways:
"I woke up this morning and I heard the news"
"I heard the doctor,But what did he say.I knew I was fine about this time yesterday"

I believe it’s very open to interpretation, but what it makes me think of is the beginning of my breast cancer journey. One day I was fine, found a small lump that night, next day was the beginning of the most confusing week of my life, while I waited for the biopsy results that turned out to be DCIS (non invasive yet still serious). As a not particularly religious person, yet spiritual, I identify with the line about needing Jesus at that moment. That was nearly 6 years ago now. Knock wood, but all’s good.
