Bleachers: I Wanna Get Better Meaning
Song Released: 2014
I Wanna Get Better Lyrics
Calling my name and I follow just to find you
I trace the faith to a broken down television
And put on the weather
And I've trained myself to give up on the past
'Cause I froze in time...
-
"I put a bullet where I should have put a helmet" sounds like suicide to me but correct me if I'm missing some deeper meaning.
I think it means: I engaged in behaviors where I hurt myself when what I should have done was something to take care of myself instead. -

I think that after his sister died, he tried to fill that gap with destructive behaviours. Now he is depressed and has reached 'rock bottom' and now he's ready to move on and pick up the pieces of his life and, well,… get better. He's sick of that lifestyle and now recognizes his problem and wants to fix things who thin himself now.
-
It is about a breaking point reached in a depressed persons life in which said person realizes that they will be able to move forward. The isolation experienced due to the condition is debilitating and one does not realize the risky behavior they may engage in until reflecting at a later time (may they be so lucky).

His sister died when he was 18, so I believe that's what the song is about, also how other things in his life effected him.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think this song is about his sister. However it isn't a sad song. This song is the realization that he wants to be happy again. While he misses a time when she was still alive and life was permanent it is time to move forward. Overall its about growing from our past. When we are in the darkest place in our life and we decide that we want to get better. When we decide that we want to be happy. The line " I didn't know I was broken 'till I wanted to change" speaks that very clearly.
-
I think the part where he follows the faith to a broken down television and put on the weather is showing how he tried to maintain his religous faith but still could not rely on god to bring him good weather (metaphor) which is why he turns on the weather to check
-
I believe this is a song about Jacks sister who died when he was 18, or at least partially. Not sure about the acid test thing. Maybe acid screwed him up for a while. Dunno. But I'm sure he was screwed up by his sisters death leading to his lyrics "put a bullet where I should have put a helmet" part.
