Bob Dylan: Born in Time Meaning
Born in Time Lyrics
You're coming through to me in black and white when we were made of dreams
You're blowin' down a shaky street you're hearing my heart beat
In the record breaking heat...

since no one has ,ok fine i will try to say a few words
This song was one of the few , like Jokerman that upon its first turntable listening I was truely tranformed from the time the sing began until its verses with its music ended I had become a different person and i knew it as I just " married" a new musical cultural thing,,I guess when I was a kid of 16 it happened with all of Bob's songs, there was a day if I recall when I was so excited to play ALL ( like the first four) of the Dylan albums at once, such was the reward , I suppose , of having been too young when they were first released
so Born in Time that lyric alone had me, existentialism I suppose,, and then the musical shift after the words first occur Born in Time
then it ( to my ears) suddenly transforms with " not one more night not one more kiss etc"
this was so uh dramatic to my 29 yr old mind
anyway all the metaphors that were then used, "you were snow etc,"to describe this lost? lover
the tone that crying pleading just stating out of compassion for her
then when he admits "I'm hurtin'"
there is your strong man the strength to admit embrace his pain cause by the loss of her love
not everyone is free to feel and say that outloud, Mr Dylan, for the upteenth time is providing an image of a man , a very conscious person,he is in effect modelling good behavior in this ballad of love and loss,,, and by doing this he is doing a good thing,,I am 63 and when I was hurt by those girls in my early teen i was not yet "smart" enough to own my feelings thinking back I was just like all my friends macho men
sorry about making such an obvious point but that's what happens when yer 63 oh dear
back to the song ,then yrs later i remember when I saw Clapton include it on one of his CD's
and there is a live performance of the two of them on You Tube which is fun
