Bobby Goldsboro: Honey Meaning
Song Released: 1968
Honey Lyrics
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig
Then the first snow came
And she ran out to brush the snow away
So it...

I REMBER this song on my way to Vietnam it was always on our radios

Over the years, when I have heard this song,I have interpreted it differently.
When I was a child in the late 60s, I thought it was about a wife who left her husband because he mistreated her.
As a young adult, in the early/mid 80s, I thought it was about a man that loses his wife to illness and is suffering so because of it.
A listened again to the song recently, and now in my mid to late fifties, I view it differently. First of all, the narrator is a jerk to his wife. His behavior appears to be getting to her (“crying needlessly in the middle of the day”). Finally, she likely commits suicide, although that’s not clear. He’s remorseful and should be. Although the song was written in the 60s and ‘acceptable’ marital behavior was different, he was still acting like a jerk and knows it. Now the narrator is clearly suffering and knows he was likely a contributory cause in her death. -
I think it's about a man who loved his young wife and missed her she had a illness and died she did not want to tell him she was dying. I could not understand what was wrong with her why did he not figure out why she was crying in the middle of the night. Women young or old when they cry it is for a reason..

"I think 'Honey' is a very emotional song, but it's not like what I call a sick song, a death song. Actually what it is, very simply, is just a guy remembering little things that happened while his wife was alive and to me that's not sick at all." - Goldsboro told NME in 1968. songfacts
PEACE OUT -
She seems to be depressed, cries often, for silly things, but unbeknownst to her lover she's suffering from depression. Most of her time is spent alone... so sad
-
To me, this song seems to be about a woman who couldn't go on with life and ended her life one day. Her husband seemed to not be available to her. He misses her now that she's gone.

I think is about a man & a woman who are married. The woman gets into a car accident and gets brain damage! The widower is now depressed for the rest of his life and only has memories of his wife!
-
Just a man that doesn't realize what he has until its gone.
-
A powerful song that helps the listener explore his or her own emotion.
