Songs about Loss
What ephemeral beings we mortals be! These are songs of mourning, regrets, and farewell wishes for the dearly departed. Not necessarily about death itself or tragic accidents, but about the personal experiences of those left behind. Mourning, they say, is hard psychological work, and it leaves a mark on you for the rest of your life, no matter how over your loss you are.
Many of these songs have a personal story behind them. Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" is a tribute to his own son who passed away at the age of four, while Elton john's "Candle in the Wind" is about the life and suicide of actress Marilyn Monroe. No matter what the inspiration for the song, anybody who has known what it is to lose a loved one forever can identify.

Alone Again, Naturally Gilbert O'Sullivan
"I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old,
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn't understand, why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken" -
