The Story Lyrics

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am

The reason this song resonates broadly among many people is that the “you” in the song can be a single person or many people. I relate more strongly to the latter, particularly, within the context of a writer or performer.
Whatever one’s life’s work, each person has their story. Each person feels misunderstood at times (“they don’t know who I really am”). Each person longs for a person or people who listen, seek to understand & validate that they are not alone (“you do. I was meant for you”.

This song could be about a relationship but I like to think that she is singing about a friend, a best friend to be exact. "they dont know who i really am and they dont know what i've been through, like you do" To me, that has to be your best friend, because thats who you reveal everything to! " i was made for you" simply means, through all my faults, you still love me and accept me so you "got" me, and you have my loyalty always. I mean, she states that fact when she writes that she climbed a nMountain top and swam the ocean blue for this person. Devotion ! Simply put.
