It's imagery from the period of the Civil War, much like the rest of the album. In my mind the are pin-pointing an event where the King of Siam offered Abraham Lincoln a breeding pair of war elephants to spawn some sort of calvary. "Elephant riders bring news from farther" Calvary riders, which whete on horse back, often rode ahead of the marching armys to bring news of enemy positions and movements. "bring news from farther" suggests how much farther the elephant rider would have been able to look given his position atop an elephant.
