Cold: The Day Seattle Died Meaning
The Day Seattle Died Lyrics
Trying to fade your apathy
Made up a world where you can’t even be you
Star in a tragedy
Shattered voice on an open chord
they line up around the world just to hear you scream
Blown away by fame
We could all...
-
As above. Also a reference to the fact that Cobain and Staley both died on April 5th (1994 and 2002, respectively). The day Seattle died.
-
I think it's about Kurt Cobain mainly but also Layne Staley.
The lines "Blown away by fame,
we could all feel the shotgun hit the floor" was about Kurt Cobain being "blown" away by the media and his fame, so he killed himself with a shot gun.
The Lines "Sat in your angry chair and just tried to be you,The needle became your queen,The drug had become your enemy" is mainly about Layne Staley because he was battling with drug addiction for many years and died of an overdose, but it also deals with Kurt Cobain cause he was a addict as well.
Overall the song is just a tribute to the two. -
The song is about the deaths of Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain, who were both from Seattle (hence the title). The line "we could all feel the shotgun hit the floor" refers to how Cobain killed himself, with a shotgun, and how everyone felt sadness of his death. "Nevermind in faith if you cant beleive" refers to Nirvana's song "Nevermind," sung by Cobain. Then the song switches to Staley. "The nightmare began when you closed the door" is refering to how Layne Staley went into isolation and became addicted to drugs in the last years of his life. "Sat in your angry chair and just tried to be you" is refering to Alice in Chains' song "Angry Chair," sung by Staley. "The needle became your queen, The drug had become your enemy" is talking about Staley's heroin addiction. "And music was just a way for you to bleed": Staley vented his emotions through singing.
And then the song repeats.
-
I think this song is about the grune scene in general. most obviously, Kurt Cobain is being referenced in the "shotgun" line, but I also think it's about Layne Staley of alice in chains. The lines about an "angry chair", which is the name of an aic song, and the drug references speak of staley to me since he died of herion od.
-
Right, I think it's blatantly obvious as to what this song is about, the renouned and famous Kurt cobain.
Lets analyse the lyrics:
turn all the lights down low
(setting a mood)
trying to fade your apathy
made up a world where you can’t even be you
(kobain himself said that fame made him a different person, he hated being famous, he hated being recognised)
star in a tragedy
shattered voice on an open chord
they line up around the world just to hear you scream
(rather obviously put, nirvana's songs mainly used screaming vocals, which can be described as shattered, as for the open chord.. The chord of e is a common one for kobain to use.)
blown away by fame
we could all feel the shotgun hit the floor
(he died by shotgun, whether it was suicide or murder I don't know, but it doesn't matter)
never mind in faith
if you can't believe
(kobain was not a religious man)
drowning in misery
the nightmare began when you closed the door
you sat in your angry chair and just tried to be you
(I believe cold thought he had killed himself, thus setting another mood, one last chance at trying to be himself before he gave up and died)
the needle became your queen
the drug had become your enemy
and music was just a way for you to bleed
(ruled and fueled by drugs, those first 2 lines signify that, as for the last line, his music, like with many musicians, is a release)
and that's pretty much it..
Oh yeah, and if anyone didn't notice, the song is called:
the day seattle died
any kobain fanatic would've figured out that it was about him from the start cos he was born and brought up in seattle!!
Now then... Hope that answers it -
To me the song is about a musician trying to make it, ending up killing himself "blown away by fame, we could all feel the shotgun hit the floor".
