Deep Purple: Black Night Meaning
Song Released: 1970
Black Night Lyrics
-
Chess,
"I don't care to sit tight.
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
that I'm free, free to be me.
Black night is a long way from home" -
Black Night is the name given to an unidentified satellite discovered by Nikola Tesla who supposedly heard it during a 1899 radio experiment. It was also observed by the USSR when Sputnik One was launched into orbit in 1957. It is alleged the Black Night is an artificial satellite of extraterrestrial origin which has orbited Earth for approximately 13,000 years.
Hence the lyrics...
"Black night is not right,
I don't feel so bright,
I don't care to sit tight.
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
that I'm free, free to be me.
Black night is a long way from home."
A very long way from home! -
This song really has no meaning Ian & Roger just threw a bunch of phrases together after a night of drinking in the pub to come up with a hit single.. And Ritchie Blackmore used a riff that he change slightly from a Ricky Nelson song called summertime..
