Electric Six: Gay Bar Meaning
Gay Bar Lyrics
I wanna take you to a gay bar,
I wanna take you to a gay bar,
I wanna take you to a gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.
Let's start a war, start a nuclear war,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.
Wow! (Shout out loud)
At the gay bar.
Now...

This band takes on alternative personalities in their music, and this song is just one more example of that. It is not inherently homophobic, nor homophilic, at least not in trying to offer a message meaning.
Much like Mike Patton, David Bowie, etc. the persona that this band employs is not truly them, at least I dont think it is. Consider "High Voltage" a song about two people driven by lust. I have serious doubts that this is a true representation of the actual band.
This song is basically a bunch of nonsense about a couple people going to a gay bar, for whatever reason, possibly they are closeted, who knows they are real anyway. The Lincoln references may be referring to allegations that Lincoln was gay, who knows. That part could also be more nonsense.
This song is meant to be provocative and/or satirical, could also just be nonsense. -
No, there are no "secret right wingers" fearing that Abe Lincoln would lead to freeing gays...who've been free for decades.
It's just a song to shock and amuse.
And is great to play at any Westboro Baptist Church protest. -
It is just balls out rock and fun, don't analyse it, DANCE!

We are all winners and superstars today, and nobody ever loses, thanks to gay Abraham Lincoln!
There's nothing wrong with being gay but plenty wrong with W*R. -
Ask yourself, what is Abraham Lincoln most famous for? Answer - He was the first great champion of equality and social justice. He freed the slaves!
Some people, on the right, still see the freeing of the slaves as the first step onto the slippery slope that ended up in equality for gays.
He represents how some people see big government. As a money grabbing institution that just wants to spend your money on helping lesbians and gays and other perceived left wing causes.
They really believe government is trying to screw them. -
I think Dick Valentine wants to take me to a gay bar, and I think Beth is okay with that.

Its about how some people believe that president lincon was gay and had many gay lovers
