Enya: Evening Falls... Meaning
Song Released: 1988
Evening Falls... Lyrics
from within me calls - could it be I am sleeping?
For a moment I stray, then it holds me completely.
Close to home - I cannot say.
Close to home - feeling so far away.
As I walk the room...
-
I believe the meaning is similar to the song Going home..home being heaven. A deep yearning to be in heaven where the singer is no longer alone but with friends and relatives

I thought it was about dying.Enya's voice, the music and lyrics are all so haunting. A brilliant song. It makes me cry every time l hear it.

Dis song provokes the tears in me

When I first heard "Evening Falls", I had an overwhelming feeling that it was about dying ... over and over again; sad but not in a bad way, more like "going home", but lamenting to some extent much that was left behind.
Early on, I actually cried a few times. But that was a long time ago, and as I've gotten older and listened to the song over the years, I have become quite comfortable with the idea of eventually dying, and this song has become one of my favorites.
I had no idea until today (2014/04/25) that the lyrics were originally based on a "ghost story", as asserted at http://enya.sk/watermark/evening-falls.php, but that surely seems reasonable.
Given my initial impression, I'd say "well done!", and thanks for a beautiful and thought-provoking song!
