Faith No More: Epic Meaning
Song Released: 1989
Epic Lyrics
If you can’t, then it doesn’t matter anyway
You will never understand it cuz it happens too fast
And it feels so good, it’s like walking on glass
It’s so cool, it’s so hip, it’s alright
It’s so groovy,...

#1 top rated interpretation:"it" in is life itself. "it" is everything the song describes, however contradictory the verses may sound. Because life is that way. Substitute "life" or "existance" for "it"
"can you feel it, see it, hear it today?
If you can’t, then it doesn’t matter anyway"
very existential. If you can't then you're dead (the song seems to assume a posture of atheism?).
"you’ve got to share it, so you dare it
then you bare it and you tear it"
procreation, perhaps? I'm not real sure about that line...
"you want it all but you can’t have it
it’s in your face but you can’t grab it
what is it?
It’s it
what is it? ..."
that's the question every sentient being faces ... "what is it?" ...
The meaning of life?
The answer,of course, is 42. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I think the song is about a fart. Read the lyrics with a fart in mind and you'll see that it fits a lot of the lyrics. You can smell it, it knocks you off your feet. Epic is a common term used to describe a horrible smell.

It's about the unseen realms, obviously. Look at the all seeing eye in the hand and the fish representing Jesus fishermen .. their band name is faith no more. Come on people. The masterbation story is just a cover for underlying ideas going on. Heaven is nearer than you think . In fact, it's right in front of your face but you can't see it or touch it. Men want it all but they can't have it trying to be their own gods.

All music of 90s is tending to explain the truth of the world literally. This lyric can have a lot of interpretation of "what is it". The first thing that comes to mind is that the "thing" is the fantasy of a music video. Whatever was the style of music, it is showing in front of you and is real but at the same time it's not. The truth can't feel it, see it or hear it (90s) so anyway doesn't matter to the audience in front the music video., and never could understand the real, at the time them show you. But feels so good and it damaging so badly. The video is cool hip and alright. Imperceptibly knocked out of the reality. You want to be the person who is in the music video but you can't get it. You begin to do the same thing and then you do it more. Then you share it with your friends. Then the lyric says many adjectives of the proposal of the making a music video. In resume the music industry and the ending of the music with content.

THE SONG is about when you pray and give your soul away to whatever your praying to then in exchange youll get a shock though your body that makes most people fall down and flop like fucking fish. It's a lie its magic its real and then when you die sadly you come back to this place and it ends up the same. So Heaven is what you see but cannot grab and the creatures/masters that run the show know this harvest our life essence and that's fucking that people

It’s about a vagina. It’s in your face; perhaps when you’re sitting down on the subway and one is “in your face” “ but you can’t grab it”. But when you get “it”, “it knocks you off your feet”. Yeah, something like that. Damn , when I was a pre-teen I never imagined this song was about that. Pretty funny, but f’d up

“It is”, the philosopher’s stone.

Masturbation!!!

I think you all are coo-coo for coa-Co puffs. It's about a person that likes to play the piano and go carp fishing.

It is whatever you want 'it' to be. Explanation given in FNM book released about 8 months ago.

Eating P**** Is Cool. Mike gave the explanation years ago on this.

One of the best songs ever, and where is Mike Patton... sorely missed... this song captures the essence of that part of life that you just can't put your finger on, no matter how hard you try, analyse, study, pray etc... You may get "flashes" of it... moments of pure pureness where you are totally at one with everything, but these are pretty rare for most people (who are not under the influence of whatever substance that CAN give you that feeling); the thing is, that the feeling of "it" can't be called REAL, unless you are experiencing it without any additives... of course, it's "real" in the sense that you may be feeling "it", but it's not real in the sense that you are using a substance to obtain "it"... whatever "it" is haha

1st verse,hippys-1960s (hip, groovy, outta sight). 2nd verse,disco-1970s (gettin down on the floor). 3rd verse,yuppies-1980s (loss & win). The boomer generation drowns them in debt, until the rain stops and theyre like fish outta water.
