Family of the Year: Hero Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Hero Lyrics
I don't wanna be your hero
I don't wanna be your big man
I just wanna fight with everyone else
You're a masquerade
I don't wanna be a part of your parade
Everyone deserves a chance to
Walk with everyone else
While holding...

#1 top rated interpretation:Man, the opening lines just breaks my heart.. This song for me is about wanting to leave a well-meaning but destructive and devouring relationship, and potentially hurting the other in the process (This can a partner, a mother, a father, a society). For me this applies to both my ex-girlfriend and my mother, in which relationships I've been trapped in the role of trying to be what (I thought, and maybe also actually) they needed me to be, hiding away from the real me and becoming smaller and suffocated. For me the song also communicates the guilt one feels for wanting to leave.

2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:I felt this song was about a young man who is feeling the pressure from his parents, teachers etc. to do something big with his life. He has natural talents & abilities that seem to draw him into the spotlight, but he doesn't always like being there. He just wants to struggle ("fight") like everyone else and spend time with his girlfriend and his music. He just wishes everyone would back off and let him live his own life.

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:I think this song is talking about someone that is fed up of his relationship and wants to take a break. He wants to explore and do what others do. Like when he said "fight like everyone else " means to live, love and roll with the people he wants. He looks like someone caged that needs freedom.

This song to me is talking about a son who feels pressure from Parents etc to do something amazing with his life but all he wants to be is happy. Happy to earn enough to keep both him and his girlfriend happy. Why does he have to be a hero? why cant he just be happy. With two sons of my own, I love this song and hope its helped in what they see as my expectations in them.

It's about a co-dependent relationship wanting to break-free and not knowing how to do it. Feeling fear, guilt and grief. "growing up" whatever your age. Needing a sense of values and personal boundaries and not yet knowing how to protect yourself from people who took away your childhood and now will take your life if you let them.
Stuck and in tears.

I think the song is about just getting through life and not being suppressed. Having a job and a relationship and fighting through all the hardships of everyday living. Just to be given a chance to fight along side everyone else and not be treated special and have to hide our true identity to fit in.
-
I think the song is kid talking about a young person who's family is going through tough times. She feels like all the pressure has been put on her to grow up and help out. Everyone depends on her too much. She doesn't want to be the Hero anymore she just wants to live her life.

Man, sorry to hear this song breaks your heart. Tell both of them how you really feel. Hope one day you can be the real you.

Hero is about an adult (he/she) who is probably fed up of the "corporate word" where people fight to go up in the food chain -disregarding the fate of those who were around him/her till then. So once he/she is finally offered with the opportunity to step up and be on stage with the "big boys", he/she realized that not everyone of he's peers has been given the opportunity to show what he/she is capable of doing. So he/she refuses to undertake that further step in the Corporate food chain (even if he/she can do it) and decides to rebel against the system and call for everyone be treated equally and be given same opportunity to bright.

Sometimes Joe says t’s about wanting to take care of everyone but not being able to. He wrote “hero”, and sometimes I think it’s about being under a lot of pressure to write songs for the record. He’s never said that was what the song was about but I’m not sure he really knows what it’s exactly about either.-No need to know

I thought this song was about a father that isn't ready to be a father. It says I don't want to be your hero and I don't want to be a big man

The guy in the song is talking about how he doesn't want to be with this girl anymore. He talks about wanting to be normal and free.He
Explains the work he did just to keep her and
Make her happy. He also talked about the things they did together, but then goes back to wanting to be free.So pretty much the hole
Point of the song is him just explaining how he just wants to live life and not be trapped
in a relationship.
