Song Released: 1998
Shimmer Lyrics
Just when I was low, feeling short of stable
And all that she intends
And all she keeps inside, isn't on the label
She says she's ashamed
And can she take me for awhile
And can I be a friend, we'll forget the...

Guitarist Carl Bell told a crowd on VH1 Storytellers that the song was inspired by an ex-girlfriend he had shortly after high school, who left him for another man she ended up marrying. A few years later, she called Bell, confiding her relationship woes in him, and he felt a range of emotions from hurting to helplessness that inspired the lyrics of "Shimmer"

This song is about a boy, still in love with a girl who was once his, but isn’t now. However, She always comes back to him, and this time he’s questioning the meaning of it all— because after all that they’ve been through; he knows who she really is and can’t quite get past it. And just because she’s so beautiful and fun and free— he knows she’s really f—ed up and will hurt him again. He’s looking at her, (wanting her so badly) while knowing she is toxic for him—and it’s a dilemma, so he’s confused what to do, because she’s like a glittering rhinestone.. He wants to possess her because he loves her and she’s so pretty and fun right now, but he knows it’s not real, and he will get hurt again. So he chooses to let go.

I think the lyrics is understandable. It seems you are feeling pessimistic about having relationships in the future and you think this lyrics will happen to you in real life. I noticed you didn’t finish your post.
Not sure if you are a guy or a gal. If they take time to speak with you. Perhaps there is a potential relationship. But if they stay away from you or avoid you, it’s clear you guys are only friends. Don’t expect too much. If they say they only see you as a friend, believe them. If they want something more, be sure you both feel the same way and you both want to be in a relationship. If you don’t ask questions, you will never know what’s on their mind.
- Never been in a relationship. Only friendships which ended not as a break up but as not being friends anymore. -
I think it's the story for every damn relationship I'll ever experience. A breakup means only o e thing when it comes down to

I think this song is about a boyfriend who loves his girlfriend but she wont commit to the relationship and this causes them too have a on off relationship and he just wants to be with her but she is refusing or is unable to commit so this drives them apart and his head is telling him to move on but his heart is telling him to stay with her and he is just confused and he does not know if he should love her or forget cause she does not believe in love or commitment

I believe this song is about an on again off realationship with a girl who refuses or can't commit. The biginning of the song is like she just broke up with and want to get back with her old boyfriend and the guy dosen't know if he can handle it again. Halfway (at tempo change)in the song its like he is remembering how she only lives for the present. He then admits that he can't seem to change her and know that while it is beatiful what they have it will never last. The last line he agrees that he take her back.
