Garbage: Cherry Lips Meaning
Song Released: 2002
Cherry Lips Lyrics
But she was young and dumb
She'd just turned twenty-one
She didn't care to hang around
So when the shit came down
Why she was nowhere to be found
This life can turn a good girl bad
She was the sweetest thing...

I seen garbage live at the M11 concert in Melbourne years ago. She introduced this song as being about a childhood friend who's life ended because of he identified as female and chose to dress in woman's clothing to suit her inner self, cannot remember if his/her life was taken by bullies or if she took her own life. But having said this,I've read the above and that all seems to fit also?? So maybe some poetic licence regarding the book alongside her own experiences - blended into a story/song?

Based on the book "Sarah". First verse is about Sarah, a young prostitute who abandons her son to a pimp who handles young TV's.
Second verse is about the son, Cherry Vanilla, who eventually assumes his mother's identity.
Crazy book...challenging read...but noted as the inspiration for the song. -
VaneDesi, that is hate speech and you might want to go to a therapist for such hateful behavior. Really. Just because you're privileged with a cisgender body doesn't mean that people who aren't are some kind of trickster demon trying to lure people into fucking them. Transgenderism is a legit medical deformity. Look it up.
Anyway seems like a song about a cross-dresser or a feminine boy. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
