The man is wondering what will happen if he falls asleep and never awakes. He wonders whether his wife will know he loved her and whether she will keep living. He has lost loved ones who never knows ho much he loved then and is worried this will happen to the wife.
He ends the song by reminding people to tell family members and friends just how much you love them and appreciate having them in your life. Just in case tomorrow never comes.
