Gotye: Hearts a Mess Meaning
Song Released: 2007
Hearts a Mess Lyrics
The pieces of your heart
And let me peer inside
Let me in
Where only your thoughts have been
Let me occupy your mind
As you do mine
You have lost
Too much love
To fear, doubt and distrust
(It's not enough)
You just threw...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think this song means, that the guy has feelings for a woman and she has a messed up heart from past relationships. He wants her badly ANC is willing to give her his love but she's confused and scared about taking that next step, and he gets tired of waiting and putting his love on hold for her when she doesn't know if she wants it.

2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:This song, with some thought is about the humans negligence and ruin of the planet. If you study the music video, you can see that there are reasons behind of each of the characters in the video. Here are my interpretations of this.
1. Injured veteran (human need for war and violence)
2. Injured pelican (animal abuse)
3. Deforestation (Mother Nature being destroyed)
4. Wrecking ball (humans destroying things in general)
5. Melted iceberg with businessman (greedy corporations polluting and causing global warming)
6. Funeral (the above caused destruction of the human race)
And the spider ties them all together.
"This is humanity. I think it's time for change." This is the message I hear in this song. -
When I watch this video I see the Lord leading his children away from the darkness and up to the heavens. He is pleading with them the entire time to let him in. To let him heal their hearts.

Written during the great awakening of 2020
With 2020 vision, Goyte in this song is speaking as his higher self. Watching down on himself and the rest of us, struggling here on Earth during the dark ages where we are disconnected from our spiritual and energetic selves.
"Let me occupy your mind
As you do mine
You have lost
Too much love
To fear, doubt and distrust"
The higher self wants to flow through us to guide us in perfection. However, we have disconnected from what drives existence, love and we have adopted fear, doubt and distrust (fed mostly by our own creations - the media and social media, religion, science, jobs and the economy, show here by the oil industry.)
"My love
Your heart's a mess
You won't admit to it
It makes no sense
But I'm desperate to connect
And you, you can't live like this
Your heart's a mess"
We won't admit it because the veil between what we think reality is and what it actually is, is very opaque. We are invested in a material world driven by science, one that has rejected spirit - housed with corrupt religions - therefore we live in a world where up is in fact down and right is in fact wrong. It makes no sense, but we can't admit it yet, or can we?
We need to open our hearts and reconnect. -
I also agree with Shane.
I like how the dude with the megaphone is taking away everything humanity has done. They all go off into space, maybe never to be seen again. The world is now in darkness. There is silence when you see the dark Earth. The Earth looks dry. Humanity is lost. The video, as they walk, is sped up video of a place (or maybe pictures). This tells me that it will take some time, but in the end, the world is gone, as well as humanity.
I am not especially good with things like this, but this is what I saw after reading through some of the interpretations. -
Well, I was asking more about the video when looking to this website. The characters are an odd mix. Very nice music video, with great lyrics. I agree with Shane as a good interpretation of the music video. The rest explain the lyrics (which are pretty self-explanatory) and what happened to the narrator. This song and music video are sad, in a weird way. And as much as I wonder who the lead guy is (or what he is), I think he gave a very good explanation. Good job, people.

I love this song and many more by Gotye. The real meaning of this song is a guy that loves a girl that has been hurt in the past so much that now she has build up a wall and locked her heart down so that no one in the future will get a chance to do it again. So he is letting her know how much he loves her and if it was possible he would take a trip into her heart to see what she be thinking about. I'm going thru the same thing at this present moment but at the end of the day I'm human and cannot control it. He just wants to show her that not everybody the same.
-
is about a man, who feels the person he loves won't love him the way he believes they should love him, and is hurt that she won't be how he expects her to be and because of this he shuts her off and his love off from her as a way to say you hurt me I will hurt you too.
-
A guy in love with a girl (most likely a friend)who is heartbroken. Girl is playing safe cause she doesn't want to get hurt again. He tries to get her to fall for him but she makes it hard for him to get her.
-
Pretty self explanatory, a sad little song about a man with his heart in a mess and trying to figure out the meaning of love, yet he is still desperate to connect and feel love, wether he understands it or not.
Nice song, very sad in its own way.
