Guess Who: American Woman Meaning
Song Released: 1970
American Woman Lyrics
American Woman, mama let me be
Don't come a hangin' around my door
I don't wanna see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin' old with you
Now Woman, I said stay...

They actually preformed at the White House but we not allowed to preform this song. it is refering to the statue of liberty as the american woman. some lyrics were also inspired by the bands complications with canadian borders and united states drafting for the vietnam war.

Actually you are both way out to lunch. Burton Cummings developed the song instantaneously while performing. The Guess Who were in Concert in the US Burton was late getting back on stage because he was mingling with a bunch of females (as he was prone to do)and he thought that Canadian Women are quite as pushy, overbearing or pretentious as American Women. When he got on stage the rest of the group were just playing a filler music while they were waiting and he began singing American Women. So he wrote it as he performed it. They would later perform it at the White House.
