Gym Class Heroes: Cupid's Chokehold Meaning
Cupid's Chokehold Lyrics
Ba ba da da
Ba ba da da
Ba ba da da
Ba ba da da
Take a look at my girlfriend
She's the only one I got (ba ba da da)
Not much of a girlfriend
I never seem to get a lot (ba ba da da, ba ba da da)
It's been some time since...

#1 top rated interpretation:This is basically about him saying how great his girlfriends are and that they're so in love. He's rushing into things cos he never seems to get alot. Cupid seems to pick all the wrong girls for him, and just when he's down he finds a girl himself and says "call it love" which just goes to show that sometimes when you're not looking for something, you'll find it right in front of you.

#2 top rated interpretation:i think its about a boy who thinks hes in love with all of the girls hes been with, but they always end up wrong. hes in cupids chokehold because he wants to find the one but hasnt yet, almost like cupids messing with him. hes stuck in love hoping he got the girl only to be disappointed saying "she's not much of a girlfriend, but she's the only one i got" i dont think hes trying to convince himself hes in love, because in the end he found what he was looking for and cupids "love" no longer has a hold. its all him and her.

#3 top rated interpretation:Look everyone, he just wants to convince himself that she's great because he never seems to get a lot...thats why its different voices saying the contradicting things...hes like arguing with himself on the inside but can't let go because...cupid's got a chokehold on him...
-
I think it's about this guy who falls in love constantly and cupid is inflicting pain on him by picking all the wrong women, as soon as he starts to settle down things go bad and that's when he moves on to another, he finds this one girl who is different from the rest and makes him mature to realize how to love even if it's rough

Personally, I've never watched the video, but if you listen to the last verse he says he always keeps a picture of her in his wallet and he pulls it out and says... Then it goes to the chorus. If you take the corus as him showing off her picture, then when he says "Not much of a girlfriend, I never seem to get a lot" could mean that people never tell him she's not much of a girlfriend when they look at her picture. Which makes the rest of the complimentary song make a lot more sense.
-
The chorus truly does contradict the song. How she "isn't much of a girlfriend", but all of the other verses are about how wonderful she is. If you just don't focus on the lyrics, one could even find the song somewhat adorable. The guy is young and even though he's probably in his 20's, he has the mindset of a middle schooler. Everything the girl does is amazing. He thinks commitment is that she has her own ring tone and he's awed by the fact that she can make pancakes and medicine. It's a nice song and can make you laugh if you take your time and listen to it.
-
It's about him escaping cupids chokehold of trying hook him up with the wrong girl, and finally finding the girl that does things for him that he really appreciates, like cooking him pancakes, and tends to love.
-
He wants to find the perfect relationship but all the girls he chooses are all wrong. I think he's looking in all the wrong places.
-
It's about how he found the perfect relationship (no thanks to cupid continually throwing him love buzzes)throughout all the bad ones. He explains how she makes him feel and how he differs from all the other girls he's dated. I think it's very sweet...and his girly is hella cute.

The song is pretty obvious. This guy keeps falling in love with the wrong woman. In the first verse he tells his mother that he has fallen in love again.at first he thinks little things like his girlfriend cooking him pancakes means it must be true love. but in the chorus he realises it wasn't true love after all. The rest of the song repeats the same pattern.
-
The title of the song makes some sense.
"Cupid's Chokehold" how cupid has hooked this guy up with the totally wrong girls in the past...but he finally found his one true love. kind of like the very first entry. I totally agree with it. -

OK what I think is that he's talking about how much he loves his girl and all that crap during the verse, then he breaks up with her during the chorus. So each verse is a different girl and each chorus is where he's breaking up with her

Well, I don't really have an interpretation, more like a question. When you watch the video, the lyrics mildly make sense. But the song itself confuses me. Every verse is talking about how wonderful she is, but the chorus makes it sound like he doesn't want to be with her... Why does only the chorus contradict the rest of the song?
