Hall and Oates: Wait for Me Meaning
Song Released: 1979
Wait for Me Lyrics
Time is running out for the magic pair
I know you gave the best that you have
But one more chance
couldn't be all that hard to bear.
Wait for me please
Wait for me
Alright, I guess
that's more than I should...

reminds me of an old flame whose past had caught up with him and he was facing 5 years in prison. Came to me and said I know I've done nothing but give you every reason to walk away. I promise that in all that I've done it was never my intention to push you away, I've given you no good reason not to walk away but if you wait for me i vow to you that you will have no regrets. Long story- I waited for him, we've been married 26 years. He came out of prison, started his own business and never looked back.

To me the song is one that came from his personal life. His relationship had been going through some problems but he definitely loves her. The problem is he’s about to go on tour. Time is running out for the magic pair is because he only has so much time before he has to leave. He went to her apartment to try to smooth things out thus the line please forgive all the disturbance I’ve created. Then he lets her know that while him being gone is hard for her that she’s got a lot to learn if she thinks that I’m not waiting for you. I think he’s telling her that he’s not going to be dealing with groupies on the road. He wants her to wait for him ie no sex while he’s on the road and making the same promise to her.

I believe it's a song written from Daryl Hall to His girlfriend Sarah Allen. Because he has been away on tour for so long. But she is there and he is asking her to wait for him after the concert.

I imagine it's at a high school reunion, and he's blowing his chance to rekindle an old flame. At least that the image I have, and what I see when I hear it.

For me, it’s a man who’s asking for another chance after already having messed up in the past. He loves me but is asking to wait for me while he deals with personal problems and depression so that he can come back whole and love me properly.

Great song. Especially the live version. I think it's about a man whose wife is dying. It's clear from the beginning that they were a "pair". However, references to "light fading fast" and "one more chance" reveal a sudden urgency to let her know how much he loves her before she dies. To let her know is "more than he should ask". Brilliant writing.

Great love song ... Two people at the end and he feels as if she does not know how much she does mean to him. One last chance to get on same page and make it worse ... Wait for me ...

Daryl wrote the song about his past relationship that was failing. He did not know when he got home from touring if she was still going to be there
