This song goes to the heart of what love is; when he feels down she lifts him up, gives his life meaning. He knows she always has his back. The last two lines suggest he will do the same for her and that their love is 'forever'.

Sara Smile is about Daryl Hall's ex wife Sara. He wrote this song about her when they began dating back in the 70s.
