Hoobastank: The First of Me Meaning
The First of Me Lyrics
A tough decision
Listen to my voice
Should I give in
To temptation, admiration
One leads to myself
The other some one else
Just an empty shell
Just an empty shell
It's harder than it seems
When you're told...

The song is about being offered fame and fortune after the release of "the reason". They need must warp and bend their moral integrity in order to make themselves and their music more marketable and sellable to the wider public after obviously being approached by recording companies. Think offspring, good Charlotte etc. unlike them they refused to have their image and music being bought and sold like a cheap commodity choosing rather peace of mind and dignity.
These guys have just become my number one band. Well done hooba
This is my interpretation, feel free to correct me with facts.
The reason: release 2004
The first of me: release 2006 -
I think the song is about a person that's not going to give up himself because of people. He was to be "the first of me": he's real self.

sounds like they received an offer from the illuminati and refused.... read up on the illuminati and then read the lyrics carefully. tupac sold his soul, jay-z, diddy... all for many yrs of fortune and fame in exchange for their soul. guess they couldnt get hoobastank

This song talks about the band, proof:
It's harder than it seems
When you're told that
All your hopes and dreams
Are yours to hold if
You just give them
What's expected
---Something they can sell---
---Put upon a shelf ---
---That I am not for sell---
I am not for sell,
The song speaks of the Band's need to decide for it own what songs to make.
the last para' talks about - what happans if they accept the offer and create music they don't like.
The best song by Hoobastank!
