    He said it himself - he and Ritchie just needed a nonsense girl 2-syl name, then on his balcony, having as smoke, the both saw a sign ... Mutual of New York Life insurance. MONY.

    Look up what interpretation is defined as. The history of the song may help in interpreting what the song is about. However, none of the comments existing on this page have any interpretation of the song. I think the song is singing about "Money", which in turn is given the pronoun 'she' and personification qualities. =]

    The first post is correct about what gave the song it's name just credited to the wrong person. Mony Mony was written by Tommy James and Ritchie Cordell from Tommy James and the Shondells back in the late 1960's. It wasn't until 1987 that Billy Idol covered the song.

    Well since billy idol didn't write this song I'd say the first post is wrong.

    I saw an interview with Billy Idol, probably on MTV and he said when he was trying to write the lyrics for the song he was in a hotel room in NYC and looked out the window and saw the Mutual of New York building sign--MONY. That started the song.

    This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
