Imagine Dragons: Dream Meaning
Dream Lyrics
And I’m right on the middle mark
I’m just in the tier of everything that rides below the surface
And I watch from a distance seventeen
And I’m short of the others dreams of being golden and on top
It’s not what you painted in my...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:I think it's about someone realizing all that's wrong with the world and wants to fix it but doesn't know how. They know what's happening and feel completely helpless.
"Teenage crystal eyes are the prettiest of lights that hang the hallways" they are starting to see how many people commit suicide at a young age, teenagers 'hanging in the hallways'
"The cries of strangers out at night, they don't keep us up at night" they're realizing that most others don't care, and while people are out there being killed and raped, no one cares, everyone just sleeps soundly -
2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:Generally, for me at least, it tells the tale of someone who has been oblivious to the suffering of others and struggles in life, and now realizes what the world is actually full of. Not the realities of being the best, not being rich, successful ... World is filled with suffering, sorrow and pain, and how s/he realizes s/he has been oblivious to these facts up until now. And yet, s/he refuses to to give in to this world and " go with the flow ". S/he still dreams of a better world.

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:It is my belief that that this song is about how we(upper class members of society) are living with an incorrect perseption of reality and that there are so many atrocities in this world that we ignore and that we just think will be "solved" later by other people. Once you wake up you realize that these things do exist, that is why he wants to dream and dream, and I unfortunately think that this is how most of us live, we just don't really want to or don't have time to care about what is going on in the world. "We all have the curtains drawn and closed" it represents how we hide from the "mess" outside.
-
My interpretation is that the speaker of the song has lived a very sheltered life and their parents and or friends have kept them from knowing how bad it really is in the "real world." As some of you have said they are about to go out in the world because they are on the brink of 18 and now they are starting to realize all the bad things in the world "and all these sorrows I have seen, they lead me to believe that everything's a mess. But I want to dream..." So they realize the world isn't perfect but they still want to believe or dream that it's not all bad and want to work to fix the world. I relate to this because I had a very sheltered childhood and now that I'm older I here about things and have friends in very tough situations but I still think we shouldn't give up and think everything sucks. I have a lot of plans but I still dream, like, I haven't given up. That's what I think it means.

“We all are living in a dream, but life ain’t what it seems, oh everything’s a mess.” This is when he realizes that we have a false perception on life, and that things are crazy. “And all the sorrow I have seen” The singer is basically seeing everything that’s going wrong in the world. “But I want to dream, I wanna dream, leave me to dream.” He or she doesn’t want to see this stuff. “In the eyes, of a teenage crystallized, oh the prettiest of lights that hang the hallways of this home.” I think he mentioning the suicide of teenagers, and the “crystallized” are the faces that they last made. “And the cries, from the strangers out at night, they don’t keep us up at night, we have the curtains drawn and closed.” This goes back to the person not wanting to see all the bad stuff, or they just want to be ignorant to the crime, which i believe is what the cries are, murder and all that crap. This is what I believe the song means, but this is my opinion.

It's about what we think as a child then what we realize what the world is actually like and want to go back to your innocent state.
