Imagine Dragons: Roots Meaning
Song Released: 2015
Roots Lyrics
Don’t tell anybody
Trouble finds me
All the noise of this
Has made me lose my belief
I’m going back to my roots
Another day, another door
Another high, another low
Rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom
I’m...

I think that this song can have multiple meanings. But for me, Roots is telling the story of somebody who has lost their way in life and is going through a tough time, questioning their purpose, their beliefs, and who they are. Basically, they are having an identity crisis. Because of this, they are “going back to their roots”, to re-discover and re-connect with themselves. Keep in mind that this is just my interpretation of the song. I have gone through an identity crisis, and this song reminds me of that time. It was day after day of confusion, loneliness, and lost hope. Occasionally this pattern would be interrupted with a stretch of “false peace” where I felt as if I had finally figured it all out and the crisis was over. And, then it would start again. Literally, the lyrics “Another day, another door, another high, another low, rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom” and “Hell will always come before you grow” sum it up perfectly. Undergoing an identity crisis is one of the most horrible things that has happened to me in my sad 16-years of living.

Maybe there is a whole load of crap and trouble going on in your life, you have hit *rock bottom* your life is hell, many people you love you might have lost, but you are going back to your *roots* and remembering the good that once was.

This song has actually been confirmed that it was about Dan Reynolds' depression. You can hear it if you listen closely. I can't really explain.
-
For me it's going back to the person I used to be, which was a better person...

In this song Dan Reynolds is saying that he's lost his belief in God because of all the noise of the world. He wants to go back to where he found his belief and overall he wants to believe in God. When I imagine Dan writing this song I picture him by himself crying and thinking about how undisciplined he's been towards God. He's saying that the thing he desires most is to be close to God, but he's having trouble finding this. I know from personal experiences how this feels. You want so badly to be close to God, but no matter how hard you try you can't seem to feel the way about God that you used to. You can see this in other songs that Dan begs for a second chance from God and wants God to hold his hand and take him back to where he believed.

I think this song has different meanings, depending on your mood, but for me it's about a man who has run out of money, 'trouble found he','rock bottom', and now he has to move back to his parents,'roots'.

" Don't throw stones at meDon't tell anybodyTrouble finds meAll the noise of thisHas made me lose my belief " we all have our own belief ..unique and different from athers . this verse is tellin the world'dont be so rude and rough with me for having my own belief... now that you know the world will treat you badly you say nothing about it and go with the flow, you stay quiet(dont tell anybody) . belive what others say even when you know that it will lead you to hell.now in the corous you say i will not follow others belief but my own (my roots) but this is not easy trouble finds you, hell follows you, waves wash you. but atleast now you will not go to hell and you walk on this hard but right path , your own path ,your ROOT. ;)
