Imagine Dragons: Theif Meaning
Theif Lyrics
You could see
The darkest place that you could be
Oh maybe then you'd understand
From desert heat to cobbled streets
From broken home to the city beat
There's so much more than you could know
[Chorus:]
So take me back
When...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song is about wishing you had as much courage as thieves, because they are unafraid of the consiqences and just do it, like you did when you younger. It's about wishing you had used that courage you had to do things you can't do now because your afraid.

I believe Thief is about someone who once believed in God, but forgot about him as time progressed. He wants to go back to him hince the lines, "So take me back When I believed,". Thief is actually used positively in this song, as he is seeing how courageous he was back when he believed. Finally, the section when he says, "When the stars look down on me What do they see," is about how does the heavens view him. Smoke and Mirrors had a lot to do with Christianity and questioning religion, so I wouldn't be surprised if Thief fit in with that same type of lyrical meaning.

This song is about someone who used to
be strong and a bit of a rule-breaker (back when I was I afraid just like a thief). Now this person is older and wiser and wants another chance to live a ferret life (if I could live a thousand times, if I could make a thousand tries, well maybe then I'll get it right).
