Interpol: Obstacle 1 Meaning
Song Released: 2002
Obstacle 1 Lyrics
We can cap the old times, make playing only logical harm
We can cap the old lines, make playing that nothing else will change
But she can read, she can read, she can read, she can read,...

Just here for the comments. And it's true what half y'all are saying about this song then it was destiny that I heard it. Greats answers and to most I can relate too. I agree that we are on the same page.

The song is about a plus size model who committed suicide by stabbing herself in the neck.
-
I believe this is about him being with a woman who is never sexually satisfied with anyone after some experience or another. "lust-faded lips" and "her heaven is never enough" kind of scream it to me.
Along with the fact that he's trying to please her, but she does everything to keep herself displeased "you go stabbing yourself in the neck." -
I agree to some extent.but in the line: I wish i could eat the salt off your last faded lips. meaning, they broke up and he misses her. We can cap the old times make playing only logical harm meaning they can go back to when they first met and where impressing eachother. but he's anoyed that she can read through it all and not give him his moment "she can read shes bad. and he wants the good ol times. It's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this face again. he cant keap up with her. you go stabbing yourself in the neck, meaning she could be suicidal. its in the things she puts in my head. she controlling him.
-
i think this song is about the singer being in a relationship with a depressed woman and she is suicidal which makes the singer go crazy.
-
I'm not good at interpreting anything, but I'll give a shot on what I think THIS song might mean.
I think it means that he's saying how awful and demanding his girlfriend is.
For example, the second half of the chorus mentions that he'll never see this place again.
He might also be suicidal about his girlfriend's choices, 'and you'll go stabbing yourself in the neck'.
He loves her, but at the same time, she's a spoiled, boring brat who doesn't know how to love a man.
