Jack's Mannequin: Rescued Meaning
Rescued Lyrics
Static to the sound of you and I
Undone for the last time
And there this was
Hiding at the bottom of your
Swimming pool some September
And don't you think
I wish that I could stay
Your lips give you away
I can hear it, a jet...

for me, it's like a refusal to admit he's weak. like, being rescued from his desperate situation would be admitting he was weak, or down. also (and trigger warning, btw) I feel he's talking about suicide?? I heard this song at a really bad time in my life, when I was feeling like that, and lyrics like "don't you think I wish that I could stay?" and "it's unclear, this may be the last song" and "say you'll miss me one more time, and I'll be strong" is like him saying "I can deal with my own thoughts on my own, I just need a little bit of support, but not as much as you're giving me"?? like, he's not admitting he needs help, because he literally doesn't need it and he can do it on his own, but with lines like "I'm feeling like I might need to be near you", he's saying "I only need slight things, not you full-on rescuing me".. I don't know if this makes any sense, but this is one of my favourite songs ever and it kind of sort of saved my life at one point, so...

i think he is singing about how he is lost and broken and this girl who loves him so much wants to see him happy and tries to help him, but he can feel he is only pulling her down with him, killing her slowly. thats why he keeps singing: "i think id prefer not to be rescued"
he considers himself a hopeless case and tries to convince her to give up on him, but she simply wont.
in the end he tries to explain to her that she shouldnt worry, for even though he feels numb, its all alright as long as she is with him.
sad and beautiful song :')
