#1 top rated interpretation:I fell like the song is about how she killed their own relationship, and like he says in the song "if there is one thing that I'm guilty of is loving and giving when you take to much" assuming she most likely took him for granted. Also he says "you've been killing me softly and finally that is to much"... and " I'm all out of whiskey to soak up the damage you've done" meaning once again that she most likely ended it... and when her friends asked what happened to them or whoever don't sugarcoat it or fabricate meaning tell them it was suicide ..as in he was killing himself in that relationship.

I feel like in his relationship he felt like it was suicide and wanted it to end.
