Jefferson Starship: Runaway Meaning
Song Released: 1978
Runaway Lyrics
But I love you like the sun
I'd like to put my arms around you
And we could run run run runaway
Let's run run run runaway
Let's run run run runaway
If you knew how much I miss you
Oh I miss you more each...

This song is about love felt, shared, but because of circumstances cannot be realized. It is one of those loves you never forget, no matter who you end up with he or she stays with you as long as you live. You can love others, but it will never be quite the same as this one...true...agape...love. (and it is love like THE SUN, not "a son." Duh). If there is that one for you, I feel you joy and pain.
I met mine at 15. We never forgot each other. Parents kept us apart then. Pregnancy, marriage to others, missed phone calls...alcoholism...death. But I still love him like no other, even though I have been happily married for 19 years. He's gone, but from time to time, he lets me know...he still loves me too. Perhaps someday we will runaway, as we should have so many years ago. From what I know of life now, it's what we should have done. God Bless you Paul. Someday. -
I fell in love with my soul mate 6 months after I got married. She broke my heart in two, I was immature and could not handle it, I broke it off with her...27 years later and 2 wonderful kids later I am still married to a fantastic woman who loves me, but no day or night goes by with out me thinking of the love I left behind. Sometimes that is just life.

I think it's about wanting someone you can't quite have. I remember hearing it on the radio when I was a teen long ago. I worked with this girl I really wanted, but she was always just a little out of reach. The song would play on the radio and I always felt like it was from me to her. I can't remember if I ever told her that or not. I hear it on The Bridge and those memories make me sad, and make me miss her decades later. I miss her more each day

How can this be a love story with a woman? Lyrics say "I love you like a son"...?
-
I'm hearing that he wants a woman but she's taken. His heart is aching since they were once together and he'd like for her to runaway with him. If he can't have her, he'll have to leave...A forbidden love.
-
My interpretation is somebody's love is dying.Thats why he wants to run away with this person. This person can't handle the heartache of losing them. Then they eventually lose this person.A song of loss.
