Kansas: Hold On Meaning
Song Released: 1980
Hold On Lyrics
Just what you see
What have the years of your life
Taught you to be
Innocence dyin' in so many ways
Things that you dream of are lost
Lost in the haze
Hold on, baby, hold on
'Cause it's closer than you...

Believe it or not, having someone to lean on when your at your lowest, or there is someone that will never deny you is a great part of the Christian religion!
So I think this is what he was thinking whether consciously or subconsciously. -
Funny how religious folk see a religious message in the song. I see a message of hope and positivity telling someone who needs to hear it to push through the hard times, that things get better.
-
The coming Kingdom of God - no doubt.

Dude...first, it's Livgren...not Loftgren. Yes, it is a song he wrote after accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was thinking of his wife Vicki who had seen him go through quite a spiritual quest - and her salvation.
-
I think this is an out pouring from Loftgren. It is sayingthat when you're at your lowest point you need to just reach out and God/Jesus will be there for you. Loftgren left Kansas some years back to persue a christian music path, and most of his writingd even during the period he was the front man for Kansas were heavily steeped in Christian Symbolism..
