Lou Gramm: Midnight Blue Meaning
Song Released: 1987
Midnight Blue Lyrics
-
To correct my recent interpretation;
Lows corrected to "Unknown or dark/mysterious". Unapologetic love song. -
I love this song and wanted to know the meaning also. From the source:
Songfacts: Your lyrics play a big part in Foreigner's classic songs. In the song "Midnight Blue," what does "cherry red" and "midnight blue" represent?
Lou: "Cherry red" means everything going as best as it can, and "midnight blue" means dark and mysterious.
Songfacts: The word "blue" shows up on two of your other songs as well: "Blue Morning, Blue Day" and "True Blue Love."
Lou: Nothing intended, just coincidence.

It's not about sex, though I understand how some could interpret it like that. "Son, life is simple; you have highs and lows." -
It could be as simple as choosing between two of the most popular car colors in the 60's. That is, there are clear choices in life.
-
It about his love for his son.
-
He states it quite clearly:
"But when I win your heart,
I'm gonna paint it cherry red..."
Love.
You're either in love or you're out, past midnight, blue.
-Chay -
I am a little perplexed by these lyrics..just a little. He sings "into the midnight blue" which obviously means into the unknown..but not totally black..blue..an unknown future..but not completely dark..and we all must face the future..the darkness with the light within us..the midnight blue!! But I have to admit..I dunno what he means when he sings "..my father said its simple..life is either cherry red..or midnight blue". Maybe a "cherry red" life is a life with no mystery, no chances...no darkness to venture into with your light and your love and your talents and..and...ok...i said enough! I LOVE THIS SONG!!
