Marshmello: Silence Meaning
Song Released: 2017
Silence Lyrics
'Cause all my life, I've been fighting
Never felt a feeling of comfort
All this time, I've been hiding
And I never had someone to call my own,
I'm so used to sharing
Love only left me alone
But...
-
I believe this song explains how everybody should open up and be themselves. I think Khalid was talking about how he could not find love and that he needs to not be silent anymore. This is a very inspiration song and meaningful too.

My interpretation of this song
This song is about himself
(Yeah, I'd rather be a lover than a fighter
'Cause all my life, I've been fighting)
Iterp:
As the lyric says he wants to stop fighting and wants to be a lover
(Never felt a feeling of comfort
All this time, I've been hiding)
Interp:
He has never felt at ease in his life, cause he has been hiding himself not showing who he really is all this time
(And I never had someone to call my own, I'm so used to sharing
Love only left me alone)
Interp:
He never bin in love with someone
He is used to share his emotions but
Love never found him
(But I'm at one with the silence
I found peace in your violence
Can't tell me there's no point in trying
I'm at one, and I've been quiet for too long)
Interp:
He became one with his inner silence, and found peace in the violence of the world/ ore among us
I found peace in your violence
(Can't tell me there's no point in trying
I'm at one, and I've been silent for too long)
Interp:
You can tell him that there’s no poit in trying because he won’t belive you.
He is one with his silence and he wants to speak for himself because he has been silent for too long.
I've been quiet for too long
I've been quiet for too long
I found peace in your violence
Can't tell me there's no point in trying
I'm at one, and I've been quiet for too long
(I'm in need of a savior, but I'm not asking for favors
My whole life, I've felt like a burden
I think too much, and I hate it
I'm so used to being in the wrong, I'm tired of caring)
Interp:
He needs someone to save him from his own silence, but don’t want it to be out of sympathy ore because he asking for it, he wants it to be treu.
All his life he felt like an unwanted gest.
He thinks about everything and he hates it.
He is used to be wrong and don’t caress no longer about the truth
(Loving never gave me a home, so I'll sit here in the silence)
Interp:
This speaks for itself, its not so hard to understand
I found peace in your violence
Can't tell me there's no point in trying
I'm at one, and I've been quiet for too long
___________
This song is about a man that has never loved someone, he realizes he needs to speak out loud to break through his inner silence.
He wants and needs someone to love and who loves him.
But till then he sits in the silence.

To me it's about a person who has begun to accept his solitude. That sometimes in life you don't have others to depend on. He has become one with his loneliness and recognizes he has to conquer his inner battles by himself.
It is also about a person who recognizes his flaws/limitations and finally sees that he needs to speak out for help. That staying quiet no longer serves a purpose.
Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness. It symbolizes breaking free from the burdens we place on our minds.
To finally become okay with just being with yourself. To stop seeking validation.
To speak out against the evil voices that torture our minds.
If you listen carefully to the words you can hear the back and forth this person is having in his head. This is where change happens. It is at this low -where two paths seem equally viable- that we find ourselves and become the people that we were meant to be.
"I've found peace in your violence"- he has decided to let go of the fighting and the pain.
This is a song about self love. About living and loving the solitude. -
Yeah, I’d rather be a lover than a fighter
‘Cause all my life, I’ve been fighting
Intepretation
It's a statement of tiredness when you are in constant battle of one thing to another in life.
Never felt a feeling of comfort
All this time, I’ve been hiding
Intepretation
Somehow, you feel never fit anywhere and choose to done layer of layer of masks to cover it.
And I never had someone to call my own, oh nah
I’m so used to sharing
Love only left me alone
But I’m at one with the silence
Intepretation
Hence, no one ever found the real person behind the facade thus no one really share with you except loneliness.
This make any love relationship strained to the end and leave bitter taste on your mouth. Which made you more keeping anything inside in a tight reign.
[Chorus]
I found peace in your violence
Can’t tell me there’s no point in tryin’
I’m at one, and I’ve been quiet for too long
I found peace in your violence
Can’t tell me there’s no point in tryin’
I’m at one, and I’ve been silent for too long
Intepretation
It's like peace and quiet within the eye of hurricane. Just like a person who was abused so much until it numbs inside you. Which made you yield it and accept whatever happened. Somehow, with this acceptance you feel peace instead of turmoil.
[Drop]
I’ve been quiet for too long
I’ve been quiet for too long
I found peace in your violence
Can’t tell me there’s no point in tryin’
I’m at one, and I’ve been quiet for too long
[Verse 2]
I’m in need of a savior, but I’m not asking for favors
My whole life, I’ve felt like a burden
I think too much, and I hate it.
I’m so used to being in the wrong, I’m tired of caring
Loving never gave me a home, so I’ll sit here in the silence
Intepretation
You acknowledge that you need help but you don't ask for help and no one know about it. You are in constant battle with your inner self and getting tired all of it. Hence, you choose to stand still in a catatonic state since you've lost hope.
As an overall, this song is reflecting a piece of mind and a feeling of a person that has lost hope in life thus he simply kept silence and do nothing.
