Song Released: 2009
Broken, Beat & Scarred Lyrics
You fall.
Youre down, then you rise again.
What dont kill ya make ya more strong.
Rise, fall, down, rise again
What dont kill ya make ya more strong.
Rise, fall, down, rise again
What dont kill ya make ya more strong.
Through...

This is about a never give up mentality, no matter what happens, what don't kill ya, make ya more strong.
Good times make you happy, but with a never give up mentality, the bad times make you much stronger, through thick and thin you become stronger. You may become "broken, beat and scarred" but those experiences can be treated as life lessons to make you a much stronger person. So just remember this song if you feel like you're suffering, because If it don't kill ya, it strengthens ya -
You Rise: Metallica passing through good times (having found Cliff and Kirk) and just having a good time: partying etc.
You fall: Metallica passing through bad times (that terrible accident leading to losing Cliff, that war of words with Jason, battling against Napster) ...
You're down, then you rise again (or born again, or regaining popularity (death magnetic).
What doesn't kill you makes you a stronger person in life means ¨in life you're gonna have good times and you're gonna have bad times, what you'll learn from each situation makes you a stronger person¨. -
I think it's pretty cut and dry. Life is hard and it's gonna throw punches and bring you down. Don't give up and get up and fight. Just makes you stronger. "You Rise, You Fall, You're down and you rise again. What don't kill you will make you more strong".

A guy has a problem. He tries to run away, but it comes back to get him.
It also talks about how life has its ups and downs. -
I believe this song is about life in general. That everyone has their own trial & tribulations to go through. Rise, Fall Down, Rise Again. It's inspirational "We Die Hard!!"

Atypical Metallica. Fighting song of the album Death Magnetic. It continuosly mentions being attacked beaten tortured and thrown into the mud but yet our unknown protagonist gets up to slog on against the unending injustice of a world against him. It could signify their uphill battle to sober up over the years which they may or may not have accomplished. It certainly smacks of the Unforgiven 1
