Metallica: Nothing Else Matters Meaning
Song Released: 1992
Nothing Else Matters Lyrics
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words, I don't just say
And nothing else...

I love this song coz its so beautiful, but I honestly think it is about not only his past girlfiends, but alos his parents which James once thought resented him befor their deaths, but as he was growing up in the band he realised friends and family are the things that keep you going...
-
It was originaly written as a love song for James' girlfriend at the time and he tried to keep the song hidden but Lars found it and put it on the album. What it is saying in the song is that no matter how far apart you are from your signifcant other you are closer than ever with them. it also stands as a song stating no matter how far you are from your true friends you know them better than anyone else.

I don't know what Metallica's interpretation of this song is or why they wrote it. It's got deep meaning for me though because it fits how I feel about my guys in the army. My comrades. We go through things that the average people don't. When we serve together, then or now, we remain true to eachother... no questions asked. No bond stronger, undoubtedly. A different breed, definitely. Open up to each other and tell things that we wouldn't dare tell even our priest. Time or distance doesn't separate or shift our bonds. We live our lives our way, different than most but the same as each other's. Brothers and sisters in arms both on and off the battlefields... I love all of them. God this fucking song gets me.

Its a song he wrote for his old girlfriend when he was on the road and they decided to put it on the album
