Metallica: Nothing Else Matters Meaning
Song Released: 1992
Nothing Else Matters Lyrics
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words, I don't just say
And nothing else...

To me it sounds like a relationship he had or has that nobody could accept or like and so ma y people and being on the road his music fans and friends was getting v in the way but he wasn't going to let it because there love for each other was so deep and strong its a beautiful song no matter what the meaning is. Its from the heart and its deep and I'm sure lots of people can relate to it. I'm still in love with the song it'll always be my favorite.
-
I believe it is meant for the Fans. that even though their music style had changed, that they were still and would always be "Metallica"
-
He was singing to aliens :)

This song is about how we have to profit everyday like it's the last we live. It's like a carpe diem so, i think, they mean love now, during u can still love, and live everyday like it's the last one, no matters what other people say. Still be the one you are and find the girl/boy you want to be with

To sum it up, Its about James talking about how he really doesn't give a shit anymore, "Life is ours, we live it our way"- Is just him explaining that it really doesn't matter...or atleast thats my trancendenelism of it.
-
James Hetfield himself said the song was about being on the road and missing home. That is 100% accurate.
-
Call me wrong...I really don't care..but this is what I know.. It does involve his girlfriend but its not really really about her though. He was talking on the phone with her when James came up with the main riff of the guitar. Now the lyrics is actually about being on tour so much and missing his actual home.

This song is about an ups and downs relationship. Wherever they are, whatever they do, their hearts can't be separated. I love you yesterday, today, forever and ever. Please love yourself and me. Nothing else matters.
We're all born for love. Its the principle of existence and its only end. -
I've been reading some of the interpretations, and, seriously? The top rated one is almost right. It's about them been on tour for so long and not being able to spend time with their loved ones. He originally wrote the starting guitar intro whilst on the phone to someone, his free hand picking the 4 strings (E, G, B, E). He was afraid to show the rest of the band the song, thinking it wasn't Metallica enough, but they all missed their loved ones too and agreed it was suitable.

i think this song is of philosophical meaning..we have to trust in ourself..that is the main point in this song.what we think is far reach from us can become so close if we trust in ourself.Life is hard and sometimes the path is so dark that it seems the road ends nearby...But if we change our view with an open mind, theres a lot more await for us.what the heart thinks sooo far can become so close if we dare..no matter what people knows,no matter what others do.nothing else matter...You can do anything.

Maybe it's about recovery from drugs/alchohol & experiencing everything as new & from a different point of view(clean) and the only & most important thing to stay alive is through sobriety...NO MATTER WHAT& WITHOUT SOBRIETY NOTHING ELSE MATTERS because nothing in life is real if your always distorting it with substances. Who wants to live an unreal & disguised world??
-
It is a song about Hetfield's girlfriend at the time.
-
Pretty good interpretations... if the stuff about the gf is true then I think all of these interpretations are right

This Song Is A Love Song. James Hetfield Wrote It For His Girlfriend And He Considered It A Private Song. He Loved Her Very Much And Wanted Her To Know It. This Song Is Talking About No Matter How Far You Are You're Still Close Through The Heart. It's An Amazingly Sweet Song And James Really Loved That Girl Because The Message Is Nothing Else Matters But Our Love.
-
This songs is actually aboout life and family . The line ' So close , no matter how far , Couldnt be much more from the heart , Forever trust in who we are , and nothing else matters . ' was the few last words of James hetfield's Grandfather before he died .
