It's one of many masterpieces Cliff left for us. It means Metallica is the best band ever!

I interpret this song as a lifetime of stories, not just one. Its a song of power and fullness, portrayed throughout the beginning and end, but also vulnerability, portrayed during the slow middle section. I portray this as vulnerability because it goes from a full band playing powerfully, to a bass playing softly and beautifully. An average person who lives well, but has to take risks to survive. Another day, another story, another sacrifice.

Just a kick ass metal ballad. Metallica rocks. That is all. I’d play this song at my funeral. The bass the drums the guitars, excellent

The band has choosen this song to bring Cliff Burton
Under the Earth. They saw them as the most virtous
Musican in the band and with this song cliff showed them
What is with the bass. That i think the Band told in an
    Interview.
Perhaps has anybody of the Band given a Statement to
The Name Orion.the Rest is Speculation.

For some reason, my husband chose this particular piece of music for his funeral in a last text to his cousin, before he committed suicide by hanging himself in his girlfriends garage. To me the song represents a man lost with no words left to say.

to me, a song that symbolizes in music the infinite nature of the universe, which was created by an Almighty, eternal and omnicient God. Kevin Ryan, Mobile Alabama 2017

This song is about space travel. The slow section where you hear Cliff's bass shows the loneliness of our space travelers as they are light years away from Earth.Love the sci Fi guitar tones and riffs.

This is not an interpretation, but a response to one. This song is NOT a tribute to Cliff Burton. He was alive and well when this song was written and recorded. It was played at his funeral, yes, but it's not a tribute. He's got bass solos in it for cryin' out loud. lol

It's the national anthem for hell and satan I played it backwards and I felt a bit funny
