To me this song is about a man who cheats and is begging for forgiveness. It is a beautiful song whatever it’s intended meaning is.

my interpretation is that this is Adams song to God - asking forgiveness as a fallen man -
his wife is Eve
the words "i was on shaky land, lost and unsure i open-end my hand and she healed it like sinking sand" refers to Adam holding out his hand and Eve taking it… "like sinking sand" is the affect of eating the forbidden fruit….
