Nirvana: Rape Me Meaning
Song Released: 1993
Rape Me Lyrics
Rape Me
Rape me
Rape me, my friend
Rape me
Rape me, again
I'm not the only one[4x]
Hate me
Do it and do it again
Waste me
Rape me, my friend
I'm not the only one [4x]
My favorite inside source
I'll kiss your open...

Well, I'm not sayin' this is the actual meaning of the song. I think it is amazing how Kurt wrote his songs, they were so complex and genius. And they could relate to about anyone depending on how you take the lyrics. He might have had a spicific meaning or inspiration for the song, but people can look at it different ways. To me, the song isn't about anyone getting raped. It's about all the troubles of life and when he says rape me, to me it is talking about all the hardships life can bring and people being mistreated by people or life all in general. Go ahead and do it again could mean that he is use to life mistreating him and he dosn't care anymore. I'm not the only one could mean that he has that "Why me?" feeling and he's trying to assure himself that he's not the only one going throw a tough life. When he is saying my friend, he could be saying that life is soposed to be good and friendly, "his friend" but it's repeadidly mistreatin him for no particular reason. Thats just what I see in the song, I'm not saying that's what he ment or what he intended it to be about, just what I see. But think of it how you want, put your own meaning on it. Nirvana forever....

This song has many. Personally I think it might have something to do with the media, because Kurt hated it more than anything/anyone. But I also agree with some of the interpretations above.

In Kurt's words, the song is a sort of poetic justice. a guy rapes a girl. He ends up in jail and is raped there.

Kurt lied about the meaning of his songs a lot. The song is directed at mtv, partially, (and tabloids) and they knew it, that's why they wouldn't let him play it. Remember that he started to play it and then went into lithium.

I think you are an idiot. If anything Kurt loved women, he wasn't a jock. He saw that jocks would cheat on girlfriends not worship them.
But besides that, the song is about a guy who rapes a girl and then goes to jail and gets raped there -

Yall are all stupid! Rape Me is about MTV selling Kurt & Courtney out to vanity fair. MTV was an inside source that provided info for the article. "My favorite inside source" It's not about an actual rape

I feel this song doesn't really have a female or male connotation, but is merely a comment on other humans taking advantage of others. The fact that he considered changing the lyrics to waif me suggest this.

This song should be open for any interpetation. So I think rape me could be about how Kurt felt his orchastative talents are raped and mis used and misinterpetated as well.In the lyrics"rape me my freind" I think he is talking about his fans raping him of everything he had to offer. I think he feel's talent is like virginity. And in a ironic twist our magigcal apostle of grunge interpetated his talent to virginity. And people are using up his talent, and raping his virginity

First of all, I own journals, books almost everything of Kurt Cobain's and this song is about a time in his life when he was depressed in rehab, and the media was really on him bad. So Rape me was a song that let out his feelings. Kurt did a lot of songs on his feelings and mind.
