I think this song is about loosing a soul mate. Someone that was very close to him. The line I see you on the day you die means that when we leave this world we are re united with the one we loved the most.not necessarily someone who has passed on. And most of the song is him missing her.... maybe email Jon..the best thing about music is what it means to you...Jon may have wrote this song but it can mean what you interpret it to be.

Jon Stevens wrote this song after his best friend died in a car accident. It's a gut punch for anyone who has similar experience, such a beautiful powerful song.

This song was written after the lead singers best friend died in a car crash. He is singing about the last time he saw him
-
His partner (or ex partner) takes her own life, and he remembers the last time they spoke. I reckon this song is her leaving and they never see each other again, because then she dies. He never thought it would happen like that, but then he recalls the way she looked the day she left right before she died.
That's what I think, anyway. But other than ya man who wrote it, how would we actually know? -
It comes across that the singer wants to return to when he and his wife/girlfriend were happy and in love.
The girl saying “life ain’t worth living if nobody cared” hints at maybe relationship ended and then committing suicide.
Thinking back on the day she left him, he recalls now that she was staring blankly into the distance. He’d give anything to go back to when things were good. -
His ex partner takes her life or passes another way.

This was written after a girlfriend died in a car accident.
