Office Supply: A Lack of Faith Meaning
A Lack of Faith Lyrics
-
May not be one of their most popular songs, but it's a fairly easy one to interpret. Office Supply wrote this song after their studio got struck by lightning while recording the instrumental track.
This song is about someone that doesn't believe in God, and their reasons for it. They start off declaring they don't believe in God. Then they say despite not believing in the Bible and all that guff, they still love their neighbors, and they aren't going to hurt anyone. They also love America even though the motto is "In God We Trust."
The chorus is basically is telling the listener that it doesn't matter if they are judging them for what they are saying because there is no judgement day.
The next verse that you have to be ignorant or afraid to believe in God. The singer doesn't understand how a real god would threaten it's members with hell. Then the singer attacks the symbols of god by saying hell doesn't exist, and the pope means nothing; furthermore, heaven also doesn't exist. The singer than explains how it sucks to not believe in something better than life, especially when no one else disbelieves it with him. Despite all of this the single really wants to believe in heaven because it is an easier approach to life knowing why you have to do things, however the singer just never took heaven to heart.
The last piece of lyrics end up telling us that the singer use to believe in god when he was young and ignorant. As he got older, life became cruel and the person turned their back on god, but then they realize that the world got crueler, because god gave up on providing that person with a cusioned world to live in, thus he turned his back on god.
