Parachute: American Secrets Meaning
American Secrets Lyrics
-
In the first half of the song, the faster part, he is remembering they're past. which is as follows...A boy and a girl are together and they fall in love. They grow up together and he starts having doubts about what could happen if he's not with her. He has this dream that he wants to become a reality so he leaves her and tells her he'll come back some day. He doesn't tell her about this dream he is chasing and she's in love with him so she wants him to be happy. So she lets him go with "all of her hopes in her bright blue eyes" Now in the second part, the slower part, he decides after 25 years that the dream he was chasing was with her all along. So he came back and she's dying. Laying in the "bedroom by the stairs" he tells her that he back "not the boy i was in the car that you saw leave but still not the man that i thought id be" because the only way to be the man in his dream was to be with her. But he realized it too late. So he tells her they can still have this dream, but just a little later when he dies. And now after she's dead he just "dancing alone with the way it was."

a boy and a girl are in love and plan on getting married one day in the future, so they run away together. all their hopes and dreams are with each other. they traveled the country trying to figure out where they belonged, finally figuring out that were they belong, is with each other. and then they find out what they want to do together. BUT THEN THE GIRL DIES. CLASSIC PARACHUTE MOVE, WRITE A SEEMINGLY HAPPY SONG BUT THEN SOMEONE DIES. THEY [Parachute] WOULD SO DO THAT AGAIN. and so it takes the guy a long time to get over her death, but he finally does because he knows that she would want him to be happy even without her. and he thinks about ending is life to be with her, but only for a little while while he's still depressed over her death. but when he gets over it he realizes that he should live his life with no regrets, the way that she would want him to. and then in the outro for the song, hes talking about how he'll be okay until he gets to see her again in heaven. "Give me one more minute with those baby blue eyes."

its about a young man, trying to persue somthing a memory with a girl that he think was meant to be. They did, they had fun and they created memory. But then, he wanted more. The memory was so string that he think that he needs to live with it. But then what can he do, he just a kid. And he need to leave her because of some particular reason, with the regrets of not living the memory and dream that they had. He still regret all the second he waste on thinking and waiting, while maybe there is a possibility that they can be live their hopes and dreams. And he finally come back and again, it was too late. Because that girl died. this is where the slow part comes. He was maybe saying that "this 25 years i have been trying to fix myself, and comeback to you.". suggesting that the girl is dead because he is always been using past tense. if you read it as a script, you can actually hear the tone naturally going from reading to remembering something else. This song, teaches you that waiting is not always the answer, especially when you're about to leave.. waiting is only going to make regrets. and the dream that you had with that special person will be burried in regrets. And you wouldnt want that to happen.
