Pink Floyd: Goodbye Cruel World Meaning
Goodbye Cruel World Lyrics
I'm leaving you today.
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye.
Goodbye, all you people,
There's nothing you can say
To make me change my mind.
Goodbye.

I feel there are two ways to interperet this song. The first is just his way of telling everyone that he is withdrawing from everyone and everything and going into isolation...inside the wall he has built around himself for protection.
The second interperatation is a bit stranger... if you play the album from disc one to disc two, this track is the last track on disc one, and as I mentioned above, he is now in isolation, and by the end of disc two, the wall has been torn down. However, if you play the album starting at disc two to disc one, he starts out with the wall built around him, breaks down the wall, and isolates himself behind the wall again. This leads us to the last track on disc one... "Goodbye Cruel World", which could be interperated as a suicide.
